Gastrointestinal Screen – Viruses

A gastrointestinal (GI) screen is a diagnostic test that can also detect the presence of viruses that cause gastrointestinal infections. Some common viruses that can be detected through a GI screen include:
Norovirus: Norovirus is a highly contagious virus that is commonly associated with outbreaks of gastroenteritis, also known as stomach flu. Symptoms of norovirus infection include diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, and stomach cramps.
Rotavirus: Rotavirus is a common cause of diarrhea in infants and young children. Symptoms of rotavirus infection include fever, vomiting, and watery diarrhea.
Adenovirus: Adenoviruses can cause a variety of illnesses, including respiratory infections, eye infections, and gastrointestinal infections. Symptoms of adenovirus infection include fever, diarrhea, and abdominal pain.
Sapovirus: Sapovirus is a type of virus that can cause gastroenteritis, which is an infection of the stomach and intestines that can cause diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, and fever.
Astrovirus: Astroviruses are a common cause of gastroenteritis in children, but can also cause illness in adults. Symptoms of astrovirus infection include diarrhea, vomiting, and stomach cramps.
