Menopausal Profile

The menopausal transition occurs in most women between ages 45 and 55.

It is a natural process that happens on average at the age of 51, commencing about 2 years earlier in smokers, and occurs when a woman’s body produces lower levels of estrogen and progesterone and her ovaries stop releasing mature eggs.

According to The International Menopause Society (IMS):

“Natural menopause is recognized to have occurred after 12 consecutive months of amenorrhea, for which there is no other obvious pathological or physiological cause.”
